Matilda Gledhill: An apprentice’s journey with MetaGedu

Rewarding. Constructive. Challenging.

Matilda Gledhill shares how her MetaGedu Apprenticeship propelled her into a career in financial services.

Introduction

Matilda Gledhill began her career at Redmayne Bentley through a MetaGedu Apprenticeship, driven by a fascination with the financial services industry and a desire to gain real-world experience. Rather than follow the traditional university route, she opted for a more practical and applied learning journey.

Starting in December 2022 as an Apprentice Asset Servicing Administrator, she specialised in both dividends and corporate actions, deepening her understanding of the company’s operational backbone. After completing her Level 3 Investment Operations Certificate, she successfully progressed into the role of Investment Administrator, where she now works closely with investment managers to support client services.

Choosing an industry that excites and challenges

For Matilda, choosing an apprenticeship was about striking the right balance between education and immediate practical application. She was particularly drawn to the dynamic nature of financial markets – a place where learning never stops.

“A financial services apprenticeship gives you the best of both worlds – real-world experience and structured learning. You are continuously applying what you have learnt and growing with the market.”

MetaGedu’s career-focused programmes offered Matilda the ideal environment to grow professionally and build knowledge, without taking on the debt that comes with a university education.

Matilda’s proudest achievements include her personal transformation in communication. Initially hesitant about public speaking, she now confidently presents to large groups of colleagues. “It has made me a better colleague,” she says, “clearer in my presentation and explanation of ideas.”

What truly sets Matilda apart, though, is her passion for mentoring. She has taken on the role of supporting new apprentices — a sign of both personal maturity and her commitment to inclusive knowledge-sharing.

“Mentoring requires patience, empathy and the ability to break down complex ideas. It shows that I am invested in others’ growth as well as in my own.”

Matilda’s apprenticeship journey brought with it many challenges – but each one helped her build resilience. She no longer shies away from unfamiliar tasks. Instead, she embraces them as opportunities to grow.

“The biggest change has been my mindset. I used to approach new responsibilities with apprehension. Now, I see them as stepping stones in my development.”

This shift in attitude empowered her to take on increasingly complex work, growing not just her skillset, but her professional confidence and autonomy.

Having completed her apprenticeship, Matilda has transitioned into her current role within Redmayne Bentley’s Investment Management team. Future plans include becoming an investment manager and studying for the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Level 7 qualifications.

“I want to keep progressing in the investment industry, both academically and professionally. The apprenticeship was just the start.”

Conclusion

Matilda Gledhill’s story is a testament to the transformative power of apprenticeships. Through MetaGedu, she discovered a pathway that aligned with her interests, challenged her to grow, and prepared her for long-term success in the financial sector.
